Aaarrrgh. In December I got to know there is a help file with LB535 (from March) (Yes I found these words in first post and in alpha notice, afterwards. I just have not paid attention.) That's really slow of me ;\

Have a program in v4.5.1 left me pulling my hair out. The program would just stop at the same place showing "complete" when it was in the middle. Can't find the cause so I tried it on v5.0-353. The program did run through it but I had to comment out some lines as they were giving me syntax errors. kill dbdirectory$+"report.txt" -- this line works on v4.5.1 but v5.0-353 is show syntax error. run "notepad "+dbdirectory$+"report.txt",SHOWMAXIMIZED -- this line also works on v4.5.1 but not v5.0-353. Also if I just say "input instring$" and during run I only press ENTER, instring$ doesn't go to the value "" but stays the value it had before. Also when I read an ascii file that just has one line using "line input", I get a square inserted between each character. I would like to be able to fix my issue on v4.5.1. Any updates on it? If not, when will the next release of v5 be?

The problem I'm having in v4.5.1 is FOR/NEXT loops. Some of them would stop the program before they finish all the loops. If I program the code without FOR/NEXT, it works fine. This problem is not in V5.

Leave v5 out of this. You have a simple bug in your v4.5.1 code. Start a new thread and discuss this code. If it jumps to complete you have that coded. Let’s find out why it jumps incorrectly.

Start a new thread, consider whether you manipulate the loop counter within the loop and do you use exit for if you leave early? Start a new thread in the novice section.

As it is my first comment on the forum
Hello to everyone
Just learning following some tutorials Maybe I am missing something that has already been said but in lb5x64-353, inputcsv generates syntax error, moreover it is not highlighted as command in the editor the same program in LB 4.5 works Windows 10 64
p.s. is there a list of bugs found so one could check if he isn't stating the obvious?

Hi when writing to a file like: open "texcik.txt" for output as #h print #h, "szedłem" print #h, "ale" print #h, "adam cccccc wwww" close #h
open "texcik.txt" for input as #q input #q, a$ print a$ input #q, b$ print b$ input #q, c$ print c$ close #q
polish font in string for output stops execution in lb5 file is created when serched for in folder, but with only first letter in it in lb4.5 works fine Edit
just read the release notes when file opened with "encoder" specified everything works (in lb4.5 in preferences it was necessery to select "east europe" ansi for editor preferences)
sorry

lb5-352 64bit on iMac. I have intermittent problems with the icon bar at the top of the ide. Occasionally I get ignored, a click on run or a click on open files just does nothing. If I hover and wait for the tooltip it reacts. Once it has reacted it will react immediately again. not sure what causes the loss of focus.

Hi,
Would like to try lb5 on my laptop running Manjaro Linux (Arch based distro).
I downloaded file and unzipped it. Are there any instructions on how to install and run lb5 in linux?
Thank you.
Mark

There is a file AlphaTestNotes that ships with the .zip that explains how to start the alpha on Windows, Linux, iMac and RPI

Market For Liberty 5? This once great Basic Programing language becomes arthritic ! Main symptom; Reserve word bloat! I can no longer use variables such as GLOBAL$
For a prime example of a Basic Programing language which became arthritic, check out 'Power Basic'.
Your most lucrative Programing market is not those who score high on the Montreal Cognitive test, or those who are in love with Object programming.
I have found workarounds for the variable dimensions restrictions and prefer them to Reserve word bloat.
global L
dim L(100,100)
z=0 'set all L values of x and y in L(x,y) to a unique number
For x=0 to 5
For y= 0 to 5
L(x,y)=z: z=z+1
print x,y,L(x,y)
next y
next x
Array$(L(1,1),L(1,1))="DIM Value="+str$(L(1,1))
print Array$(L(1,1),L(1,1))
Use TYPE and Random Variables for greater than 4 dim positions
The Error capture routines could be improved with the Power Basic TRY command This is LB workaround for PB TRY command, very useful for file errors.
[try1START] on error goto [try1CATCH1]
open CONVERT$+"AA."+InFile$ for input as #f3: close #f3
goto [try1END] 'file exists!
[try1CATCH1] on error goto [try1CATCH2]
open InFile$ for input as #f4
open CONVERT$+"AA."+InFile$ for output as #f5
do until eof(#f4)
line input #f4,Record$
print #f5, Record$
loop
close #f4
close #f5
on error goto [Error.Handler]
Err$="SET File: ["+InFile$+"] Loaded into Folder CONVERT!"
print Err$
Err$=" { File Error Corrected { RUN LB Program Again! }}"
goto [Error.Handler]
[try1CATCH2] on error goto [Error.Handler]
print "< DELETE [LOAD LAST TRANSLATION.TXT] > See MESSAGE"
print "< Place in Root BAS File for TRANSLATION >"
Err$="<ERROR> PB File Not Found in Root Folder! <ERROR>"
goto [Error.Handler]
[try1END] on error goto [Error.Handler] '!CONVERT Power Basic Program exist
I love the INS library creation in LB4, it is helpful with structured programming.
