I thought this was worth revisiting because of other conversation relating to this.
Some time back there was discussion about the cross platform aspect of Liberty BASIC 5 and how this would affect the way that API calls are used.
Because LB5 will use emulated widgets similar to the current LB texteditor widget, the use of API calls to coerce them into doing different things will become largely obsolete. To compensate for this my intent is to simply make all the built in widgets much more flexible in LB5, so that API calls should not really be needed.
Users of Windows, MacOS, Linux, Raspberry Pi (Linux on ARM) will still be able to make calls to external libraries to do many things, but in the realm of the GUI, this will not really be necessary anymore. At least that is my intent.
