have any other linux users encountered problems with the sample program failing to create the Payables Db.

Well, unless Carl's overloaded the SQLITECONNECT command, it's possible that format doesn't work anymore.
The example given for ODBC uses SQLITECONNECT to create the connection to the ODBC data source.

Here is the connect subroutine from the callerODBC.bas example. sub connect sqlserverconnect #db, "CALLERLOG", "username", "password" end sub It does not use SQLITECONNECT.

Perhaps the command should really be ODBCCONNECT ?

I think that would be best, to clearly indicate it's meant to be ODBC. "SQLSERVERCONNECT" might be interpreted similarly to "SQLITECONNECT", as in "connects to Microsoft SQL Server"(like "connects to SQLite"), instead of as a generic ODBC connection command.

Ok.. Finally got some time to test ODBC. I guess I'm missing something. What ODBC software should I be using. Is there a write up somewhere on how to set it up for SQLite. I also have a mySQL database running behind Apache. It's running well with replication.
Can I use the same ODBC software for both?
Thanks for the help.. Dan

does anyone have an opinion on PostgreSQL, is there a steep learning curve and how does it compare against other SQL servers. I have it up and running on Linux Mint 19.1 and am digging around with PGadminIII.so before I spend a lot of time with it , the question is...... is this my best option thanks in advance

Dan Each database really needs its own driver for ODBC. I'm using the Devart ODBC SQLite driver. download.cnet.com/SQLite-ODBC-driver-32-64-bit/3000-10254_4-77414954.htmlIt's possible that your Windows install will have one for Access and SQL Server. One of my computers does for some reason. Once you have the driver installed press Ctrl+Esc and type ODBC and choose the appropriate 32-bit or 64-bit item depending on your database. Then you need to configure the data source name. Here's a link with instructions, which will be different for different databases because they might expect different parameters. www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-create-and-setup-an-odbc-database-connectionOf course you can also just search the web for configure odbc data source, or look for videos on YouTube. -Carl

I'm sorry.. I have been really busy lately.. I really need this to work. I doubt I'll have any problem with it once I get some time. Probably will be able to get back to this in a week, or 2 at the most..
Question?? If I get it to work on a database I have on my server - It's running behind Apache.. How can I get clients to run LB programs on my server. If that can happen then I have a client server system. I looked at Java script to run server programs, but it's almost impossible to get out of the "sand box".
Thanks for the help.. Dan

I think that Michael Molinari has done some stuff like that. I can ask him and report back. -Carl

Ya! anything like that. Because Run Basic can't do databases that can replicate, I can't use it for production. So maybe a way to run LB from RB will do the trick. However - the best solution would be to add ODBC to RB. If it's possible to get back in the future, I'd rather wait for it.
Maybe that web stuff Chris was working on has some possibilities???
But I'll take what I can get...
Thanks for the help.. Dan

Thanks Carl for the help and ODBC. I got it to work on a mySQL db that is running behind Apache. The DB is used with a web system with light usage.. only about 200 updates a day with 800 users. But it's a system where down time is not allowed. So it uses replication with two top level systems called Backup1 and Backup2 in two distinct locations. So if anything fails, it fails over to Backup1, and it that fails, it fails over to Backup2. Still testing.. we will see how it goes..
As I get time, I'm trying to see if there is a way to get LB to run on the client side.. Maybe a way to get RB to shell to LB or maybe use some JavaScript .. dunno yet! If RB will run ODBC sometime in the future, I won't need this.
Thanks again.. Dan
