Happy hour or two of fun. I'd done graphics of concentric ripples before, using 'circle' command, but wanted more realism. A mainstay of junior physics when learning about waves is the 'ripple tank'. I wanted a simulation of what it can show.. but better and less wet and messy!
Here are some of the results! ( code will be on my LB site soon) This is ten sources in a line at the bottom, adding to a main perpendicular lobe and little eenrgy going sideways.
Now, with sinusoidally shaded waves, with amplitudes summed realistically..
Now to try a 'phased array' with the multiple sources fed with progressive delay, moving the main 'lobe' to a sideways angle.
And the intention is to make all of them animated ( as GIFs)- this was the first with a single source, and accidentally animated backwards- which actually looks more fun and hypnotic.
While code was running, I found a lovely website with these and many other real-time animations online at www.falstad.com/ripple/
I still prefer to brew my own! EDIT It's a whole lot faster in LB5- but no bmpsave yet??
