I was looking at the Liberty Basic website and wondering if Liberty Basic was still being maintained? On the one hand I noticed that the forum is quite small at around 600, but on the other hand, according to Google trends, Liberty seems to get about as many search queries in the USA as Xojo and more than Purebasic (Xojo has a clear lead globally)? My second question relates to stability. Am I correct in my understanding that Liberty Basic emphasizes stability / reliability, and should be more reliable than Xojo?

How do you define stability/reliability? As the developer of Liberty BASIC, I can't really comment on how stable or reliable other versions of BASIC are or what emphasis their developers place on these attributes.

I'm not a professional programmer but I need to code from time to time for my research. I use R and I've had a lot of frustration with code I've spent months working on breaking - as libraries are frequently updated. Similar situation with Excel plugins that break when Microsoft updates something. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm trying to find something that isn't too dependent on external libraries and Microsoft updates.

I can say this. I have a commercial program that has been used on XP, Win 7 and Win 10 and have had no issues. I uses dozens of DLL calls and none have caused a problem.

Same here; I developed a program that ran at my ex-employer for 10 years with no issues. The only issue the program ever encountered was the local IT department being less than smart... {:0) Brandon Parker

The forum is small because it's a relatively new one. We moved from the previous hosting, because... they are gone.
LB is being maintained, currently LB5 alpha is being tested.

Thanks, and in your opinion how would other common languages have faired - maybe Python or Xojo or something for comparison? I am sure they would have faired perfectly fine, but Liberty BASIC is what I developed the program in. {:0) Brandon Parker

It was called the Show Secretary program for Windows.. It was used to do all the paperwork for Pigeon and Poultry shows which is a massive amount of paperwork. It was used for several National Shows with about 6000 entries. Because it was used by a relative small customer base, I stopped selling it a few years ago. It was costing me more for the web site than I was making. It was about 18,000 lines. I did selll a lot of copies.
