What the file *.im and how it run? just a guess you are looking at Lb5........ === Linux 64-bit ===
Extract the lb5-352 folder to your home folder. Start using the lin64-352 file: ./lin64-352 lb5alpha64.im
=== Raspberry Pi ===
Raspian is only 32-bit at this time and is not included in this distribution. Download the 32-bit version here:
http://www.libertybasic.com/lb5x32-352.zip
=== MacOS ===
Extract the lb5-352 folder to the /Users/{yourname} folder.
Method 1 - Double click on the lb5x64-352 app. You may need to press and hold right click to popup a menu and use Ctrl+Open to overcome permissions. NOTE for Catalina - you need the 64-bit version of Liberty BASIC.
Method 2 - The terminal window. cd to ~/lb5-352 Use this to launch: ./lb5x64-352.app/Contents/MacOS/vm lb5alpha64.im

What the file *.im and how it run? The files with extension IM are the actual Liberty BASIC system. It is really large right now because I am not excluding stuff from the build. Smalltalk application deployment works by stripping out unused stuff, but I am skipping that step for now. Later when we progress to beta testing from alpha testing I will begin reducing the size of the IM file.

For me the IM extension is the abbreviation for image, like a virtual machine image, not a picture image.

You already are.
If you've opened LB5, it's running that .IM file. That IM file IS LB5. If LB5 is open on your computer, it's open from the IM file.
The reason you didn't have to interact with it directly on Windows is because the Windows bootstrapper(the EXE file) is able to locate the file on it's own to load and run it.
The bootstrappers for other platforms need a bit of help at the moment to find the IM file to load.
