What was your first BASIC compiler? For me it was Microsoft's The Applesoft BASIC Compiler (called TASC). My first job was writing business applications on the Apple II+. I would write and debug the code using the Applesoft BASIC interpreter, and then run TASC while I took a break drinking coffee and eating Keebler cookies while reviewing the code listings. Yes, the compiler was that slow.

I had little idea about interpreters and compilers till I found Clipper, a compiler for DBase III. Wow, it transformed DBase code and it ran like it was on rocket fuel. Then I understood the difference between interpreted running and compiled running.

What was your first BASIC compiler? The first BASIC compiler I used was IBM BASIC Compiler. It was slow and clunky, but it got the job done. Later I moved on to Turbo Basic and then PowerBasic. Fun times!
