There will be an upgrade fee for the new major version, as there has been in the past. The upgrade fee has historically been smaller than the price of a new license outright. Carl's posts about the builds include links to the latest build when he posts them. The most recent one is usually pinned to the LB5 board. This should be it: libertybasiccom.proboards.com/thread/1559/liberty-basic-build-352-uploaded

Be sure you have the latest version of Liberty BASIC, v4.5.1 itโs on the main Liberty web site. It is much improved on older versions. The upgrade is free for v4 users.

As I understand, LB v5 is the only cross-platform version that will work the Raspberry Pi & Windows, but due to it's alpha release, it's not fully functional. Is it just the new functions that are buggy, or the whole shootin' match? IOW, do all or most of the older LB v4.5.1 commands work OK in LB v5?
I'm interested in buying the Pro version, but I'm hesitant to do so if all I'm going to be doing is filling out bug reports! ๐ On the other hand, maybe you need testers!
I've been programming in BASIC since 1969, when I was 10, at CSUN (my brother was working on his BSEE, and I quickly learned how to use the old teletype machines).
If I buy LB v5, does the license allow me to also download v4.5.1?

LB5 is not currently purchasable, and if historical precedent is followed, an LB5 license would not entitle you to use LB4.
LB5's alpha builds are freely available for download and evaluation. Anyone can download and use the LB5 alpha builds on any platform.
As for the amount of commands that work in LB5, coverage isn't really near complete yet. Progress is being made, and a lot of basic stuff works, but you'll probably be more likely to run into some sort of alpha bug than not.

Just buy v4.5.1 you will not regret the modest cost, you will have great fun learning how to use it and will be well placed to make the best of v5 when it launches. V4.5.1 will still be in use, itโs not disappearing.

Unless you are the sort of person who likes to play with unreleased software I recommend you give LB v4.5.1 a try. It is stable and well supported.
