I have currently a text editor I have made for a programming language I am designing. My next step is to add a new menu to the menu called workspace. The workspace, is where the bulk of the programming will be done, and subsequently the entire textedit control and its relevant code will be used in the new workspace window. Except for the menu, the original window will have no controls. Now, can I just open a new window #workspace, in Liberty the standard way and use stylebits to tell it that it is a child of #main or do I have to use api calls to a dll file?
Thanks in advance Larry

I'm not sure I understand why you are using a second window and why you want it to be a child of the first. You can, indeed, set one window to be a child of another with API calls, but not with stylebits. If you post some code to illustrate what you are doing, it will be easier to point you in the right direction.

I just have the simple editor right now. It is only one window with a textedit control and a menu.
I was using a programming editor from Pharo which is a version of smalltalk, and they had different windows that popped up when needed, but at the same time you could minimise them and they sat neatly in a little rectangle inside the main window showing just the title bar.
I just thought it would be nice to have something like that for my programming language editor, so several windows could be open at the same time within the main window so they each might do different things.

Thank you for clarifying what you seek. It is not available natively in Liberty BASIC. You want an MDI, which stands for Multiple Document Interface. I'm not aware of a tutorial that does exactly what you want, but THIS ONE addresses MDI with a different use in mind. Natively, you can simply open multiple windows from your primary editor window.

I looked at it and downloaded the wmliberty file. I went to join the forumm but my e-mail address has been banned. And I do not know why as I have never been there before. Only thing I can think of is they could be banning all Yahoo addresses to avoid spam.

Brent has only ambitions to help folks so persevere and try and register again. In any event some content is accessible without registration..

Finally got my acct created at bay6 yesterday. Started posting, but not sure about the interest level. Nobody's posted there in 3 or 4 years. I did get the wmliberty file and made a pdf of the documentation page so I will try it out and see how easy it is.
