My first program in about ten years. The app uses no input or output files. Data is entered to textboxes and the app responds to a textbox. This is my goal for now, but I am unsure in what order the various steps must take place. Step 1 Open Liberty Basic v4.5.1 and select “NEW”. done2 Enter the code. done 3 Run the code. done 4 Debug (Make any necessary changes.) done 5 Do a File Save. (not sure if I am to do a save-as and to where it should be saved). Need guidance
6 Create an application. Need guidance
7 Make *.TKN file. Need guidance
8 When I am ready to create a shortcut - how do I do that? Need guidance
Appreciate all responses!JustNorm

Saving. First I create a folder for the program that I am creating some where on my hard drive. I'm funny, I create a new folder for every important program on the hard drive but you can create the folder anywhere. Just be careful if you hard code a path in your program rather than using relative paths. If this is the first time you are going to save the program, you can use Save As or Save. Browse to the folder you have created and Save or Save As. From now on, just use Save. You can still use Save As but if you try to save it to the original file name, LB will ask you if you want to over write.
Now that your basic file is saved in your program folder, you can create your application. Click Run Create Application. Browse to your program folder and name your exe and click Save and your done. This will copy all the files necessary for LB and create both the TKN and the exe.
If you are only using your program for your own use, to create a shortcut on your desktop, browse to your program folder and right click and hold on the exe and drag it to the desktop. Release and Create Shortcut. If you are going to distribute the program, there are installation packages on the forum or maybe the encyclopedia that might create the shortcut. Never used them. I have used a program called Install Creator for years to install applications on customer's computers. It does everything including creating the shortcut. Maybe someone else can help with creating the shortcut with a program.

Thanks, Mknar I haven't completed my little task above, but I will soon.
What I would like to know now is - as the Administrator, do I have any special areas for file storage that are protected from those that only have user status?

I think Program Files (x86) is protected. I have one program that I put in there and the data is saved in a folder in My Documents. One of the reasons I do that is most backup programs always save what is in My Documents so the data is always backed up. Again I don't know for sure but anything you save in your User account should also be protected. There are others on the forum that would know better than I. To be honest, I think people worry too much about security of their programs. Both the TKN and exe are virtually un readable and those who have the skill to hack it also have the skill to write the program for themselves. My commercial program has a lot of bitmaps and help files that are certainly able to be changed. I'm not responsible for those who decide to change or delete them and then the program doesn't work. I've actually had one customer who did something similar and the program did not work correctly and they complained to me. I refunded their money and refused to support the program in the future.
