i'm looking for some kind of counter for the prog below.

need to be able to grab each line in set of 6 lines + the spaces

there are 8 sets of 6

NO line spaces

Why the trouble with BINARY?
open it for INPUT and read line-by-line
Just count lines
output 6 lines from any line desired

Yes, thanks. Figured it out. All seems to work ok now.

You helped me a while back on "cleaning data files"
It works good for me, and saves me time. Thank You.

1)After I do the cleaning and the conversion of the last field 7 (A=1 B=2 ect…)
2)Also, not sure how to do this, but if field# 2,3 or 4 show a 1 then 2-spaces need to be removed after the 1.
3)Other changes I make is on field 6. (can be no higher than 9 and no alpha)

You told me awhile back of extra spaces ect..you saw in my data ? that was most likely why I had problems with it.
not really sure if the above 3-steps are faster /better to do by hand ?
