Hi. I want to use a simple Windows tablet to read serial, analyse and display data using Liberty basic. Will Liberty basic work with the simplest tablets? I do depth surveys of my local creek and draw charts for my yacht club. At the moment I can read serial data with a Pic micro, save to uSD card and later analyse and display data on a PC using Liberty Basic.
I could obviously use a laptop to read, analyse and display directly. But it’s a laptop. In a small boat it would get splashed with salt water and stop working very quickly! A tablet I might put in a waterproof pouch. I had this vision of displaying depth info as I sailed around a small area of sea! Any ideas?

This will work with no issues provided that your tablet (assuming a Windows based Tablet obviously) has the required USB-to-Serial drivers required to talk to the PIC Micro's serial interface. Bluetooth would be no different if you were using that. I have done this very same thing many time with Arduino's and hardwired USB or Bluetooth. Windows is the cantankerous part of the mix....with it's choosing which Drivers for use with devices, but you can override it if necessary choosing the Driver required for the job.

Thanks Brandon. Yes I thought drivers might be the issue. I have a 4D systems uUSB-CE5 serial adaptor which Windows 7 and 8 seem to like. Not sure if something like a Lynx tablet with an Atom processor would be any good. Apparently has a USB-ish connector. Nobody speaks very highly of it. I was looking for a ‘display engine’. I have a Raspberry Pi. I could get a touchscreen and eventually programme in C, turtle, python or whatever. But would rather pay out for someone else to make a nice neat tablet that I can program in L Basic. You have to pick your challenges. I will keep looking. Thanks, Phil.

I have a SAMSUNG ATIF with an ATOM Processor running Windows 10....no issues with it with regards to this type of thing...

I think I am learning that there are very few Windows tablets and they have problems. And liberty basic only works with Windows until #5, then not Android or other. So no trusty tablet/Liberty combos in sight just yet. I might stick with my Windows 8 laptop for now. Bit clunky and vulnerable but seems to work. Thanks, Phil.
