Hi.
I'm new here. I've been wanting to buy a programming language I can use with a database for potential projects that I would work from home on. I have a few questions, and I hope it's ok to ask?
Does LB have good database abilities for N-tier apps?
What do you have to give the user on his desktop for instance besides a compiled exe? I mean, do you have to worry about them having certain dll's, or? I come from a VB and ASP background.
Does LB have any good reporting add on's so one could use a good reporting tool?
Are the compiled apps big if you're doing some normal every day run of the mill database work? CRUD?
How fast compared to other high level languages is LB on the clients PC typically?
Thanks so much. Tim

Hello I'm not in databases but I have strong suspicion that - LB strong features not include work with DB.
It is nice simple BASIC, with pretty easy GUI stuff - but not as intricate as VB.
Have you installed LB? It does work in shareware mode - you can try it and see if you like it. If you installed it, there is a Help topic on making EXE files. Yes it needs some DLLS and they are normally passed in same folder as EXE, so actually nothing to worry about.
As for "fast" - it is not fast but it could as well be "fast enough", really depends on task. Run and see.

It is possible to connect MS SQLServer, mySQL, etc databases with an ODBC DLL.
There are various examples in the forum.
It was relatively easy for me to do this by looking at the given examples in the forums.
It depends on your software development skills.
If you are a newbie it is hard. If you are experienced not too hard.
LibertyBasic is pretty much do it yourself, easy to use Basic version for simple Windows GUI development.
I tend to believe that you can effectively do almost anything you can do with other programming languages using API calls and DLLs.

That post was in 2018 Cryptoman has not been around for a while. What he says is true but it may not be the right path for you. If you know nothing about ODBC or SQL it’s probably the wrong path. We will have SQL functionality in LB 5 but that is a while away.
We are a bit lite on database engine code, there are some examples to hunt down with google or the forum search box but they rarely get too far. Whereas the native code examples are easy to find and easy to interpret.
Perhaps if you describe your project you will get more focused help and examples. I would also search out Run BASIC which I believe has more database code.
I find Liberty BASIC code powerful enough and easy to use for all of the database projects I ever tackled, no real need for external engines. Aside from multiuser access.
But what is your project?
