My first encounter with BASIC was after I heard of the machine learning program at ax dynamics - Anegis Consulting. It got me extremely interested in IT, Internet of Things, programming. And here I am, sitting on these boards. Welcome to our community!

Born in the Netherlands, now retired. Living (Vernazzano, Lago Trasimeno, Italy) alone with three dogs since the death of my partner. He gave me a Liberty-Basic copy because according to him was it the best at that time, 200?. Since that time I enjoyed it. (Exists a better one?) I’m loving it!
1983-1985 Apple IIe cloon BASIS 108 (128 KB RAM memory! A German tank house.) with Applesoft-BASIC. Wrote WESP a truly simple statistical program for my registering as a public health physician, (NIPG/TNO Leiden University Holland)
Hobby: Classical Music. (Mozart as daily food, up to Strawinsky, addicted.) As failed violinist (monofonic) no access to HARMONY of Walter Piston, the famous treatise. Too short fingers for a keyboard. " Buy beer for your money, you never learn to play the piano ", advised my teacher. I bought instead an ATARI ST 1024 and NOTATOR. Wrote in BASIC Omnikron. PARTICELLA (published and reviewed.) Imports musical notes with the mouse and exports them in a MIDI file. Sounds with PROTEUS. So I can compose four voices, for example a BACH-choral. ATARI ( also the 6502) became obsolete, what a pity!
Since 1995 switched over to WINDOWS, afterwards decided to remake PARTICELLA 2.?? Not ready yet. Frustrated because the project is too big for 1 lifetime. But it is the principle I believe in, for a second life.
PARTICELLA is intended for ‘monofonics’ (singers, no-players, etc.) who want to analyze and study polyphonic music (help with harmony and counterpoint), with mouse input, output in MIDI file for further editing in programs like my preferred CAPELLA 8 (German product with a great future). It is like a blocnote for quickly writing down and try-out musical ideas. Like really composers do: sketching and testing.
When Brahms heard the Clean Blue Danube, he sighed: "sorry, it is not mine". So it is when I daily start Liberty-BASIC. Carl Gundel is not the inventor, but the consolidator and propagator of this Universal Human Language. The computer (man-machine) is making also lonesome and in this aspect is this FORUM a possibility for people-to-people communication through speaking- and writing languages. The social aspect of an introvert activity as computering. Schubert and Mozart not realized what they left behind. Carl, your work will continue to grow, also after your RAM-Memory and CPU have become obsolete. How do express your folks there on the other side of the ocean? I will guess and say: Carl you are fantastic! You are my hero! Friz

Before I ever saw a computer, one of my brothers (I have 5) left a BASIC programming text laying around the house. We are all readers in my family, so I just cracked that open and started reading it. I seem to remember understanding it, but probably not so well. Nevertheless I'm sure this prepared me for what came after when I saw my father's HP-67 calculator. Here's a link about the calculator by the way. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HP-67/-97#67My dad was a Fixture Builder and Model Maker. He had one of these calculators in the mid 70's. When I first got into machining he loaned it to me for awhile to see if I thought it might help me in my work. I played around trying to figure out how to program it for awhile. I was kind of fascinated with the concept, but I never did really figure the thing out. I gave it back to my dad. After he passed away my mom sold his tool box to one of his long time co-workers. I have often wondered if that old calculator was still in that tool box.

then some health problems apparted me from computing now using 4.01 on emulated win XP ( linux ) for calculations, home management and fun Hey Marc! Sorry to hear about the health problems. You should grab a copy of LB v4.5.1. Your existing registration will work with it. www.libertybasic.com/download.htmlI tried this with my version 4.04 registration and it didn't work.

I tried this with my version 4.04 registration and it didn't work. I should because the registration mechanism is the same for all version 4.x of Liberty BASIC.

I tried this with my version 4.04 registration and it didn't work. I should because the registration mechanism is the same for all version 4.x of Liberty BASIC. This. Any key for LB4 should work on any version of LB4, from 4.0 to 4.5.1. The only thing it wouldn't work for would be things in the Pro family(v4.03 + Assist, Pro v4.04, or Pro v4.5.1). In which case, you would need to download the latest version of the Pro tools. (Pro keys cannot unlock standard LB, and vice-versa.)

Yes, if you try to use a Pro key on non-Pro that will not work, and vice versa.

Yes, if you try to use a Pro key on non-Pro that will not work, and vice versa. Okay. That's the problem. I have 4.04 Pro. I've never seen a download link for that at the website.

Carl can provide you with a link to the updated version.
I'd share it myself, but I honestly can't remember if Carl approves of that or not, and he's done a decent job not publicizing the Pro links.

I started programming with the BASIC language in 1984 when I was 14 years old. There was a little movie that came into the theaters called War Games (LOL) that sparked my interest and then a TV show called Whiz Kids that also increased my desire to understand more about where technology was heading. In middle school, there was a new class offered called Computer Skills Next that I enrolled in and took off from there. I didn't own a computer at the time but by Christmas time, my parents got me a Commodore 16 with a cassette tape drive and amber monitor. I was on top of the world to say the least. I remember that character graphics was very easy to use so I made an animated Christmas card. I also got a game cartridge that plugged into the back of the machine called Strange Odyssey by Scott Adams. That really sparked my interest in Text Adventure games. I got my first IBM compatible in 1991 and had been out of the programming loop for a few years and tried Qbasic and Quick Basic but hit the jackpot around 1994 with Liberty Basic. I'm just an occasional programmer and I've tried different languages but THERE IS NO OTHER product on the market that puts you in the drivers seat of the programming world like Liberty Basic. In no time flat and that isn't an exaggeration, I was writing software with a GUI interface that actually worked nicely in the windows environment as it was advertised. I've wrote software for various environments such as contract closeouts for business and stuff just for entertainment. This software makes you feel like you can accomplish any task and the people who regularly render support are awesome You know who you are Rod and Stefan (Carl goes without saying!) and resources such as those produced by Alyce Watson are second to no one. Thanks for adding to my quality of life in the programming world LB Team!
Sincerely,
James Grubbs

I started programming with the BASIC language in 1984 when I was 14 years old. I'm not 100 percent sure when was the first time I ever programmed in BASIC. Probably it was at the local Radio Shack. They had a TRS-80 Model I with Level I BASIC, which is essentially a version of Tiny BASIC. I seem to remember going in there with my brother Ernie and messing around with it a little. It was either that or else it was at the public library where in the summer anyone would sign up for 30 minutes of free time sharing to a local college to connect to an HP-3000 minicomputer which had BASIC and Fortran.
