Liberty BASIC v5.0 work was recently migrated to the newest version of VisualWorks which now has a virtual machine for the Raspberry Pi, so we can add the Raspberry Pi to our list of targeted platforms.

That's a great combination - LB and the RPI.

That's pretty cool! Looks like I'll have another reason to buy a Raspberry Pi.

Oh - now I am excited! I have a half dozen RPi's and would love to be able to program in LB on that platform. I would be happy to be a tester for the platform when the time comes. I am hoping you plan to support the GPIO with some "extra" hardware commands - maybe the Print command can be used for that, if not the read/write command. Let me know if you need a RPi (via PM) - I have a spare one.

I expect some first class GPIO features will be needed. No PRINT style ones.

I read that there's even a version of wine for Android out now, though I'm sure the functionality is limited. It's something I may try out. I downloaded the apk. I'm thinking some simple LB programs may work on it. My problem is figuring out how to make a "desktop link" (app?). I've done some googling on it and it looks really complicated just to make a simple link to a program.

Hi Donny, I wonder if performance of Liberty BASIC would be unacceptable for many things when running in Wine on the ARM because it would need to emulate the x86 processor. Have you had a chance to try it? -Carl

I ought to get out my Exagear/LB installation on one of my Pis. Didn't check comparative timings when I installed it a year or so ago. Quote is from a reply of mine on the Pi Forum... [/i]
