Interesting. Thanks for clearing that up.

Over the years I have belonged to several other forums and all look similar to this in the way they are presenting information. All have been easy to find topics of interest. I've also see forums that were also providing information that were neither nice or easy to navigate.
The only complaint I had over this new forum compared to the old one is before I had my cataract surgery I could hardly read it. Now that I can see again it's fine. BTW I'm not much for glitz anyway.

I'm not much for glitz anyway. I agree. I'm fine with just the facts and just enough graphics to delineate the subject matter. Of course, I grew up during the BBS days, so...

I watched Just Basic and Liberty Basic sites for years, and bought it recently. I am so happy with my purchase. The fact is that LB is a real basic ide and language that has all that is needed to quickly build apps and the language itself is beautiful, smart and powerful.
I have a real c64 that I use every week to play and do all kinds of things. I love old 80s graphics and all that.
I find the content of LB main sales site great. I read all the information, loved it. The language is direct, fun to read, with great style.
But I thought for years before ordering. Why? Because when I, like most people, visit an old fashioned website with the intention to buy, design matters.
A site that looks old makes a customer think it is abandoned. You fear paying and then not receiving the product. You may also fear to buy something abandoned or not updated.
The product is great. The contents of the site are great. The design discourages because of those reasons, even for people like me that were looking for a basic language and love old graphics.
I would propose something like this: - Center the site horizontally (it is small and to a side, better if it was wider and to the center of the browser) - Do 3 columns or take the menu on the left (which I love, but looks old) to the horizontal top (as for example happens in this forum - Remove the gradient on the right (gradients are old) - Use a font for the page that is more modern (not the times new roman),for example arial is also old but atemporal, or something new like open sans, roboto etc (that are google fonts)
If all this seems too complicated, you can do it fast by using some service like Weebly (it has a free version, and doing a site is all visual, the templates are great and you have to customize very little things, and have a modern-looking site in minutes).
As the info and content is PERFECT, it is just a matter of oppening a weebly account, set the domain there, and choose a template.
It will not magically bring more sales, or maybe it does. Liberty Basic is also very well marketed, and there are links everywhere.
The same people can come as it is already very present in the web. But may make people think less and buy earlier. Not like me that was scared because of the old look and hesitated for an eternity before I bought. A modern design may make people think it less time and buy more often. And then when they see how good it is, being more wanting to share the link because it looks good.

I think the Weebly.com alternative is a good one, as it is simple, easy, quick and free (except putting the domain name, which is 48 yearly but the rest is free). There may be some other alternative too. I used it for my portfolio, and did it in just one day. There are some free templates at Weebly that are white with simple but modern look that may be the modern alternative for making the site look the same but with a more current look. The content a I said, and all the other aspects, are perfect in my opinion.

I've had similar success with Google Sites, but Weebly is designed with e-commerce as a primary goal. Thanks for sharing. I'm pretty sure I could find a much more affordable domain name though.

Some sites of hosting have or can install Sitebuilder. With sitebuilder it is also easy to build a site.

Carl, here's an idea ... why not have a contest that serves both to promote Liberty BASIC and gives you potential options to choose from ? Wait until Liberty BASIC 5 is released to announce the contest.
Have a public vote where the top 3 voted designs get a free Liberty BASIC 5 license, and the Grand Prize winner ( chosen from the 3 by yourself ) also gets a Raspberry Pi kit.
Announce the contest on the libertybasic.com and promote it on your Facebook pages, Twitter, Web Design forums, Raspberry Pi forums, programming forums, etc ( those that allow that kind of thing ), etc.

It doesn't need a complete overhaul, it's just that some of the CSS is really off.
The whole page is left-aligned, so it's a lot of empty space on the right, the background is set to repeat, so on a larger screen there are multiple blue columns, some forms are completely misaligned too.
Solid basic HTML and decent CSS is more than enough and doesn't require a whole overhaul or a site builder.

How about this one from HTML5 Up? Phantom - they have quite a few more but this one did not look too hard to adapt.

I would agree. But Carl does not have the time. All the info needed to create the new look is on the old page. What Carl needs is for someone to tweak the likes of Phantom on his behalf.

With all the talented, good-hearted people on this board, maybe one of them could step up to do the 'tweaking'. Or maybe one of them knows a guy that knows a guy...
