I have not seen the word "shareware or free functioning program" in the forum. Is it ok or frowned upon to suggest such a thing. If I had a complete program to disentangle on day one, I could have made faster progress. My drawing program in Liberty Basic 4.5.1 is up for grabs if it is ok to post it somewhere? It is 41 KB on disk. A novice might just enjoy taking it apart.

Not frowned upon at all. Everyone mostly shares freely. Some folks add a licence even an open one. The issue is how to share. This forum for example is not free it costs supporters modest amounts to keep it on the net. We cannot afford large storage or large download bandwidth so programs are shared here simply by posting the text. Try that option first, if the .bas can be copy pasted to the forum that would be simple.
If you have a large program with lots of support resources like graphics and sounds then you need to find a host. Most hosts hold .zip files and users would download and unpack the program. Some folks use an installer that wraps up the program and takes care of the download and installation to the PC. All of these components cost money. The host will charge, the installers are not free.
So if it is a simple .bas just share it here, if it is a larger but not commercially viable consider finding a host and using a .zip. If it is commercial then you need to start exploring download and distribution options like installers.
