I'm a retired IT executive that "grew up" on the Apple IIe, IBM PC, and a Commodore VIC-20 computer back in the day. During those years, I enjoyed learning how to write programs in BASIC, FORTRAN, COBOL, and Pascal. I learned the three different types of BASIC that was unique to each computer (including the CPM version of BASIC for the Apple IIe).
During my IT career, I learned to repair PC's and printers, install network cabling systems (including old school thick yellow Ethernet cable with "vampire" devices that connected the PC to the physical cable), install Novell NetWare, Banyan Vines, and 3COM network operating systems. As time continued to go by, and I climbed the ranks of management, I watched my skills get replaced by newer technology. That included the programming languages. As an IT executive, I was completely "hands off" anything technical (at work anyways). I longed for the days of programming for fun.
When I discovered Liberty BASIC, I was very excited. So I bought a license and started to have fun programming again. Then, life interrupted things again as my parents aged and needed lots of my time even though I was retired. Priorities! My parents passed away a few years ago and the trust was finally settled. I finally have time to write programs again.
So I dug out the source code for a Mobile Home Park Management System that I wrote way back when on a Commodore 64 (I didn't own the computer. I had to borrow it to write the code). Now I'm learning more about Liberty BASIC by converting the old code to Liberty BASIC. I'm also optimizing the code as I go, and adding lots of user error trapping that I couldn't add on the Commodore 64 due to memory constraints. After the plain text version is done, I'm going to convert it to a windows format so that I can learn more about Liberty BASIC's windows capabilities.
So a big "THANK YOU" to Carl for creating Liberty BASIC!
I'm having a blast!
Joe
