Hi all,
I purchased LB in 2012, and never really used it much. Life got in the way with a young family, etc.
Today I downloaded the latest version of LB, entered my license code and boom, I was up and running that quick! Very impressive!
I'm excited to be back and to get started AGAIN!
I know that the community has probably changed a bit in the past 12 years, so does anyone have a suggestion on how to catch up on the latest on LB? Or is this the place to start?
Thanks so much in advance for your answer!
Johnny

This is the right place to start. Tell us what you are interested in coding or post code you are playing with and you will get plenty help. We have lost a few coding resources over the years but members here can still find helpful resources and code examples.

Hi Carl,
Thank you!
I applied my original 2011 "Gold" license code to the latest 4.5.1 download and it made my installation "Registered".
What does that mean and/or is there an additional upgrade path that I should think about pursuing?
Thanks!

There is a Pro version to seek out. It offers additional development facilities like project versioning and runtime analysis. But for where you are now v4.5.1 is just fine. Get some coding experience first, that will keep you busy enough.

Between the time you bought your LB Gold license and the current version of LB, Carl retired the Silver license, and no longer offers it for sale. So now, there are no longer three levels of license for standard LB(Unregistered, Silver, and Gold). There's only two, Unregistered and Registered. Registered in the current version is the same as the Gold license in previous versions.

Hi Chris,
Thanks a lot for the clarification! It really helps a lot!
I'm excited to get back rolling again with LB!
Out of curiosity, are most people using the built in IDE (which I myself like a lot) or is there something else that people also like to use also?
Thanks again!
Johnny

I was under the impression there are still three versions, the two mentioned and somewhere in the mix is the Pro version

V 4.5.1 is the latest version that works at “gold” standard. Any previous versions are outdated. Pro offers more code development functionality but runs no faster nor offers any greater coding functions. If you want to try a different ide try the links on the home page and go to Alyce’s Restaurant. Some folks do use other ide’s and there is a discussion about it in the help file. But I say again, you would be better spending time using the vanilla tool set and getting some coding done. I think you will find that most rewarding.

Hey Rod, If there is an another ide, I can look in Alyce's Restaurant. But there is also a version in Visual Studio Code. There is one problem. I can't run a LB program in Visual Studio Code. I missing the run button. I must save it and return to LB to run my program. Is there a solution? Maybe, I forget something.

Well you can run Liberty from the command line or even from within Liberty. So the question is really how does Visual Studio open and run a .exe? These are the code lines to run code from within Liberty, depending on the version of liberty you use, running from the command line would be similar. For the command line you would drop the chr$(34)s and put in the literal path and file name where I have DefaultDir$ and file$.
run chr$(34);"c:\program files (x86)\liberty basic pro v4.5.1\lbpro.exe";chr$(34);" -R -A ";DefaultDir$;"\";file$
run chr$(34);"c:\program files (x86)\liberty basic pro v4.04\lbpro.exe";chr$(34);" -R -A ";DefaultDir$;"\";file$
run chr$(34);"c:\program files (x86)\liberty basic v4.5.1\liberty.exe";chr$(34);" -R -A ";DefaultDir$;"\";file$
run chr$(34);"c:\program files (x86)\just basic v2.0\jbasic.exe";chr$(34);" -R -A ";DefaultDir$;"\";file$

>>Is there a solution? sure it is You should explain VisualStudioCode how to run LibertyBasic on current file. but it is VisualStudioCode - specific. Gogle will help, something along "progamming run button in Visual Studio Code" I just run VSCode, shrug and close it back. Sorry. Cannot help (btw I have Notepad++ configured to run LB/JB, justbasiccom.proboards.com/thread/628/using-notepad-external-editorand I use it regularly, but again it is completely Notepad++ specific. )

I was under the impression there are still three versions, the two mentioned and somewhere in the mix is the Pro version You're not wrong, but I was considering Pro to be a separate product. LB Silver and Gold licenses both unlocked standard LB. You could use either license in the same LB install. LB Pro installs a separate product with a separate license, and the two cannot mix. You cannot use an LB standard code to unlock LB Pro(even just the standard features), and you can't use an LB Pro code to unlock standard LB.
