That should work Jim.
Did you forget to define ip$
eg: as long as the path already exists ip$ = "MyNewFolder" 'or with a full path ip$ = "c:\BasicFiles\Test\MyNewFolder" result = mkdir(ip$) if result <> 0 then notice "Temporary directory not created!"
Also, windows will not allow users to create new folders in certain protected folders. Where are you trying to create your folder?

Jim, then I copy/paste your two lines, it compile and run. Syntax error shows something is wrong in the line. It might be wrong extra symbol - try pressing Ctrl-D, and normal line will warrant "Syntax error" But at leas it shows missing glyph (empty rectangle) symbol, and you could see it and delete it. The problem is it could be invisible symbol, like unbreakable space (chr(160)) or chr(255). Sometimes it could be pasted from a webpage (Setup/preferences/filter bad characters should prevent such characters from copying with program code from Internet pages.) Try to delete offending line and retype it from scratch.
( I always thought it is 160, but Googling shows 255 as well Here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_page_437"Alt codes" section says what chr(255) is remnant of DOS days then codepage 437 had a space on the very end of the page And if you try to hold Alt and enter 255 on a numpad, Windows substitutes characters from codepage 437 (but if you start from 0, Alt 0255, you get character your Windows codepage actually has) It's just one of the things you cannot ever guess )

- Create folder.
a$="new folder" result= mkdir (a$)
- Name code and put it in the folder. - Run - Open folder and see if new folder is present. For elsewhere folders---> complete path.
