I have searched the forum for the answer and could not find it, and if I overlooked it, my apologies. I was wanting to know if LB5 for linux will compile and execute programs without using the WINE dependencies?

It runs native under Linux- in my case using Mint 19. Wine is not needed ( I have run LB4.5 under Wine for a long time, but LB5 runs native.)
Note however that 5 is very much an alpha release- bits not yet implemented, and an incomplete editing environment. Read the readme files to see what is/isn't yet working. LB4.5 is reliable and polished; 5 is new and raw. Don't expect to cut and paste between them and expect it to work without problems, except on simple code!
Carl is working very actively on LB5, and if you run it you will be able to add your own feedback thoughts and influence corrections and improvements. Read all the active comments on this forum!
