Obviously, since the prog. is quite happy if file exists and you use the known length-of-file rather than LOF!!

Wrote ( in LB5) code for a poster on JB forum and it fails
open "test.fil" for input as #fIn content$ =input$( #fIn, lof( #fIn)) close #fIn Runs fine in LB4.. is there a syntax change??

I understand reluctance to borrow from other languages. I think the simple one I regret not having in LB is '+='. I always use long, generally camel-case variable names for self-documenting programs, so writing
tearsOfJoy =tearsOfJoy +1 with every step nearer to full LB5 is slowing me down!!

Great minds think alike- look what desktop icon I'd allocated on my Linux Mint screen! Shows how glad I am that LB5 is out in the wild, if only in alpha- and can't wait to get home to my Pi's- I'm away on holiday at present.

Sorry, have been trying lots of my programs and don't remember which it was. Will report if I see it again. Thanks for clarifying the exponential notation- I should have thought of trying 1e20 rather than 1E20...
I search my code for savebmp and for the occasional '#file, nnn, ....' to rem out the missing command and the , that used to be accepted following the old syntax of print #f, ..... Saves a lot of LB5 hangs!

A test program used
if newNumber <1E40 then goto [offWeGo] ... and LB5 barfed out, tho' acceptable in LB4.5.
Turned out it was the use of exponential notation that threw LB5 again- NOT the use of 'goto'.

Yes. As long as it is a fast double-click!

Now changed to not use brackets, so old program style not accepted.
Also bmpsave seems not to work with syntax I am used to..

I do seem to have to do a more rapid double-click than I normally do, but it works fine for me on Mint 19 both above example and loading from BASIC editor.

Also, a program that works in LB4.5 failed with 'product could not be expressed by a double' when all the numbers lie 3E9 were changed to 3000000000.

My programs often use syntax of 1E9 instead of 1000000000 This seems not acceptable to LB5. Is this going to be implemented?

You're right. I reckon most of the polish so far has been impressive!
